Is it just us, or is networking actually the worst?

honestly, i was scrolling through my dms the other day and i felt that physical cringe. you know the one?

it’s the "hey girlie!" followed by a 4-paragraph pitch about a masterclass i didn’t ask for. or going to a mixer and having someone look at your nametag before they even look at your eyes. or that weird, high-pitched "business voice" people put on the second they walk into a conference room.

like… are we okay?? why is the bar so low? 🙄

the anatomy of "the ick"

we’ve all been there. you’re trying to enjoy a coffee or a glass of wine, and suddenly the conversation turns into a script. it starts feeling like:

  • "so what do you do? 🤖" (as if our entire identity is just our tax bracket)

  • "here’s my pitch 🤖" (sir/ma'am, i don’t even know your last name yet)

  • "let’s hop on a call 🤖" (we all know the 'call' is just a sales pitch in a trench coat)

it’s forced conversations, fake energy, and people trying to sell you something 14 seconds after meeting you. it’s exhausting, and frankly, it’s why so many of us have started hitting "decline" on every networking invite that hits our inbox.

can we please act like normal people again?

at phoenix women’s club, we’re kind of on a mission to kill the "networking" label and just… be humans again.

the biggest mistake we make is entering a room (or a zoom) wondering, "how can this person serve me?" or "what can i get out of this?" it feels transactional because it is transactional. but what if we stopped looking for "leads" and started looking for "biz besties"? what if we talked about what we’re actually obsessed with—whether that’s a new marketing strategy or the fact that we finally found the perfect matcha spot in scottsdale?

the referrals, the collabs, and the big opportunities happen naturally when the friendship is real. it’s about community over contacts. every. single. time. ✨

you're invited (to the non-networking networking hour)

since we’re all clearly over the fake business energy, i’m hosting a webinar this wednesday and i’d love for you to come hang out.

it’s literally called: networking for women who hate networking. we’re going to talk about how to build genuine relationships, referrals, and connections without feeling like a linkedin bot. we’re going to learn how to be human in business again (promise).

the details:

📅 when: this wednesday

💌 where: online (cozy clothes encouraged)

🎟️ how: this is a phoenix women’s club members-only event, but p.s.—we have a free membership option available so you can totally come sit with us.

let's stop the "pitching" and start actually connecting. see you there?

xoxo, the pwc team 🥂
